Confirmations

Confirmation marks the time when young people are moving from childhood into their teenage years. This is a time when those to be confirmed are asked to think about the choices that are facing them: choices about their values and choices about their faith. Before being confirmed, the candidates are asked to renew their Baptismal promises. At the Ceremony of Light, which takes place weeks prior to the Confirmation ceremony, a candle is lit and handed from parent to the child, symbolising the handing on of the faith.  The laying of hands by the Bishop symbolises the coming of the Holy Spirit into their lives.
